For centuries, people have relied on yoga and Ayurveda to regain balance in their bodies and minds when experiencing anxiety. When we feel anxious, it is our body telling us that something is out of balance. This can be from undigested emotions, relationships, or our lifestyles. This is what all of our symptoms during this time are telling us! We just need to start listening and make the appropriate changes to come back into balance. This is not a "one size fits all" solution since we are each unique in our personalities, lifestyles, etc. However, as a baseline, we can do these 5 things daily to help reduce and alleviate any anxiety.

5 Natural Remedies

1. Drink warm water throughout the day.

Firstly, warm water throughout the day is important for adding moisture to our systems. Anxiety can have the qualities of cold and dry. Therefore, we want to cultivate the opposite to find balance. So, incorporating warm water or herbal teas throughout our day is very helpful. Please stay away from ice! Even when it is very hot outside. Ice is harmful to our digestive fire. If it is hot outside, cool water is fine. Just be careful with the freezing cold smoothies and other drinks/food.

2. Exercise first thing in the morning to reduce cortisol.

Secondly, our cortisol is naturally highest in the morning. Cortisol activates our nervous system. When our nervous system gets too stimulated, we can find ourselves out of balance and it can lead to anxiety or panic attacks. Consequently, going for a brisk walk with your dog or friend is a wonderful way to start the day. Aim for 30-60 minutes.

3. Create a healthy daily routine.

In addition, creating a routine that you can do every day is calming to the nervous system. It does not need to be elaborate! Start simple. Maybe you can try to wake at the same time each day, drink a glass of warm water, and go for a walk. Start with that. Then, you can add on from there. The key is to be consistent. Through the consistencies, we create changes in our minds and bodies. Remember, even small changes can lead to HUGE trajectory shifts and result in fewer menopausal symptoms.

4. Eat warm, unctuous food.

Furthermore, cultivating the opposite of cold and dry is essential. So, think cooked food, not raw. Moisture in food is good! Stay away from chips, crackers, and cold salads that are raw and uncooked. Bringing the moisture and warmth into our bodies helps to pacify the imbalance that can cause anxiety. 5. Go to sleep by 10pm.

Finally, getting to bed by 10pm, if possible, keeps our bodies in sync with our circadian rhythm. Quality sleep every night helps us to find better balance and deal with any stressors that may arise in our lives. From 10pm-2am, our mind digests and sorts experiences and emotions from our day. If we leave our mind cluttered with undigested "stuff" it can create havoc in our lives.
